Precollege Education Program
Comes Full Circle
ACerS student member Jennifer Sigman was one of many high school students who
knew the career path she wanted to pursue prior to graduation. With a keen interest
in science and her father's electrical engineering influences, Sigman wanted
to be an engineer. Choosing which area of engineering to study began when Sigman's
advanced physics class went on a field trip to the ACerS headquarters to learn
about ceramics through a "Ceramic Science & Technology Days" tour. Kathy Martin

E-Week Spotlights Ceramics,
Boing-Boing
A multitude of events, many of which highlighted ceramics, marked the celebration
of National Engineers Week, held Feb. 20-26, 2000. Local activities at ACerS
headquarters, Westerville, Ohio, included a regional engineering competition
and special tours designed to introduce children to science, engineering and
ceramics. National festivities in Washington included the announcement of the
greatest engineering achievements of the 20th century, the launch of "Boing-Boing
the Bionic Cat" and the use of ceramics in a nationwide competition. Trisha Zellner
